Communication Disorders Minor

Immaculata’s minor in communication disorders provides an overview of normal and disordered speech, language and hearing across the life span. Prepare for a graduate degree in speech-language pathology or audiology, or use your knowledge to enhance your career prospects in special education, disability services or health and social sciences in settings such as schools, intermediate units, hospitals or rehabilitation centers.

  • Discover the anatomy and physiology of speech, hearing and swallowing mechanisms.
  • Study language development from birth to adulthood and related cognitive, physical, social, cultural and environmental factors.
  • Learn about English speech sounds and the acoustic and articulatory properties of languages.
  • Understand ethical and professional techniques for hearing assessment and the impact of hearing loss.

This minor complements various majors, including education, nursing, allied health, psychology and communication.
